Alex McKibbin's Blog - Part 2

“CRIPES” as Boris Johnson would say, it really isn’t a pyramid of piffle or indeed a waterhole of waffle…it’s just a quick update to all you good folk in international media about a few bits and pieces. Firstly, as you might have heard our good friend and OPMA stalwart Matt Findel-Hawkins had something of a health scare a couple of weeks ago. The great news is that he is on the mend and will be gracing the halls and salons of the great and the good fairly soon, we all wish him a speedy recovery. In Matt’s temporary absence I am helping organise the hugely popular annual Golf Day. This takes place (as the vigilant amongst you will have noticed) on June 27th at Bird Hills Golf Course. This course welcomes both low handicappers and fortunately for me and Chris Maundrell slightly higher handicappers. No need for plus fours and Val Doonican style sweaters (whatever happened to him , something to do with Paddy McGinty’s goat??.) I can guarantee that it is a great day out. Did I mention the cost? £42 seriously, that’s all it is. That includes the golf, breakfast, lunch and a chance of some prizes to the more accomplished. It’s a steal and a brilliant way to entertain guests. For that price you’d be hard pressed to find anything as remotely  good value. As Fred Pontin used to say “BOOK EARLY”

Right, what else has been going on? Thanks for asking…..well, the website has gone down a storm. Everyone has been extremely complimentary and the improved search function makes planning and buying your favourite foreign media just that little bit easier. What’s that, tell us your favourite overseas title is Alex? oh, ok then…don’t laugh though,  ZWF – Zeitschrift fuer wirtschaftlichen Fabrikbetrieb  I get it on subscription!

Seriously though, I have had some very positive feedback from a diverse spectrum about how well OPMA is doing. Re-launching the website was the start and The Council are determined that we shall go from strength to strength in our desire to support members and the community that we serve. We have a few things in the pipeline and you will hear about them shortly. I will soon be getting going on the groundwork for the next Guide and will be chasing all you good people up in due course.

Lastly, the AGM takes place on June 10th, we will post more details on the website in the coming week
